May finished well for us! We had a great time at Dave & Hannah’s wedding on the 29th. What a wonderful couple, just wish we had more time to spend with them for photos. On the 30th we shot the 50th anniversary vow renewal ceremony for Don & Janet! Fifty years, wow, what a goal to strive for!
We have some plans in the works for some video tips on our web site, well not video tips I guess, but some videos of tips for selecting a photographer, make up tips, and wedding timeline planning tips. As soon as I can get time scheduled with our renowned videographer friends, Mark & Cheri of Sondeyfilm HD (sondeyfilmhd.com) we’ll get them posted so keep checking back!

With the loss of many jobs people who own a camera think, “Hey, I can make a few bucks.” You see them everywhere, Craig’s List, My Space, and some may even spend a few dollars for a newspaper ad.
It is hard today when everyone is used to “Cell Phone” quality photographs for the average person to discern a Professional from a wanna be. Most people will just shop price! Yes, we were guilty of that too. When we got married my bride, someone who absolutely loves photographs, took the word of a friend who knew a good photographer, and she only charged $500. After our wedding we received an envelope of cut negatives, which would now cost us about another $500 to scan. Add on top of that prints and an album, about another $800 (if my wife has her way).
You need to ask these questions, has your photographer had any formal training? Do they continue their education with classes and seminars? Are they members of any associations like the PPA, WPPI, or PPM?
Really look at their work. Do their photographs have red faces, a red or green tint to the photo, if so they probably have their printing done at Sam’s Club or Walmart instead of a professional lab. But not to worry, those photos will fade or have more of a tint as the years wear on. Are the larger photos mounted? Do you have to cut out your own photos from a sheet? All things to look at besides the price! What kind of a deal are you getting if your photographs will be useless in a couple of years?
I had a client who came to us after she went to another “Photographer” because they were cheaper. For a High School Senior shoot they received 700 photos of their son on a disc, she said not one was worth printing. It ended up costing her more to seek quality work elsewhere. But then again there are those who would think that would be wonderful because they got 700 photos! Quantity is not quality!
Quality photography is an investment. Know what you are getting before you hand over your hard earned dollars.

It must be getting close to the Bridal Shows, it’s snowing!
We will be at the WGRT Bridal Show at Alexander’s in Marysville on January 17th at 11:00 am, then the RadioFirst Bridal Show at McMorran in Port Huron on January 31st also at 11:00. We hope to see you at one or the other or maybe even both!
Sorry about the lack of photos on the blog, had to remove them due to people violating copyright and stealing them. It is not good for us the photographers or the clients who have paid for their photos.
Well it is time to shovel snow yet again. Keep warm, see you at the Shows!

Don’t be fooled by great (cheap) prices, you really do get what you pay for! There are many “Photographers” that offer you the world for next to nothing, and you end up getting just that, next to nothing. Go with a Pro, someone with experience. Shooting a wedding may look easy but there is a lot of planning and expertise that goes into the process. Last fall I had two Brides call and ask if I could fix their wedding photos. One had a friend take the pictures and the other got their “Photographer” from Craigs List. Unfortunately afterwards is to late!
Your wedding photographs are forever, well, that is if you hire the right photographer!
Hope to see you at the McMorran Bridal Show January 31st!

Wow it has been a while!!! Everyone is ordering photos for Christmas, getting Christmas photos taken. It is usually slow this time of year.
Time to start thinking of the 2010 Bridal show at McMorran. January 31st is coming quick and we hope to see a lot of you there. Come check out the new line of albums and some of the other cool new products we have to offer!
We recently did some “Fleet Photos” for Ted. He is a Navy Recruiter now stationed in the Chicago area. We also managed a few family shots of him and his wonderful wife Susanna and cute daughter Maddy!
Give a call, don’t be shy, it’s time to start booking those 2010/2011 wedding dates. It is never too soon! We’ve got one booked for Colorado this coming July. Can’t wait do do some shots in the Garden of the Gods park and up on Pike’s Peak!
Down the road or across the country, give us a call for your wedding destination!
